Review: Aces Wild: Sin City Collectors Novella (Sin City Collectors) by Amanda Carlson
And I'm hooked on another series!!
What I liked: I enjoy Ms Carlson's Jessica McClain series and didn't think I would quite like Aces Wild as much because I prefer Urban Fantasy over Paranormal Romance(PNR). Well, Ms Carlson has drawn me in and now I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
First books in a series can be a challenge and make it a novella and it's even bigger. I absolutely loved Aces Wild when I didn't fully expect to. Not being condescending here, just realistic about my likes and dislikes. I already knew I liked how Ms Carlson wrote but I wasn't sure about a PNR. The romance is there but it doesn't detract or overshadow the characters or the plot.
The characters in Aces Wild were carefully crafted and hooked me right away. Neve and Jake are a great couple. The chemistry is there but it's not as easy as that sounds. There's some history and we're slowly clued in on their past.
The whole concept with Collectors is something different and it completely held my attention. The pacing of the story was outstanding. In some novellas, you get an information dump and a rushed ending. So not the case in Aces Wild. The character development will be on going but we got the basics we needed in a first story.
What I didn't like: It's not so much what I didn't like as what I wanted. I wanted MORE!!
Just like that, I'm waiting yet again on another in a series. The novelty of the premise makes me want more now.
An e-book, Aces Wild is available for $2.99 at B & N and Amazon.
Highly Recommend!
