Review: Night Broken (Mercy Thompson #8) by Patricia Briggs

Night Broken - Patricia Briggs

One of my all time favorite series.  It just keeps getting better and better

Since there was nothing I didn't like, my format is out the window on Night Broken.  I love when that happens, don't you?

I absolutely hate starting a Patricia Briggs novel at night because I just want to stay up and devour it.  I make myself not do that anymore because I get so tired, I feel like I miss things.  You don't want to miss anything in Night Broken.

The action starts from the first sentence.  Yeah, just what every wife wants, the ex-wife calling for help that can't be turned down.  I think Mercy started off handling the situation as well as could be expected but my gosh, I just wanted to smack Christy and half the Pack.  You would think they would be smarter than they are but I guess the protective instinct just doesn't quit.  I did find myself liking previous characters I wasn't sure about.  I hope Honey gets her own story.

Even though there is a lot of stress on Adam and Mercy and the Pack, they hang in there.  Well, at least Adam and Mercy do, even when Adam can't help himself in trying to protect Christy.  Of course, Christy's trouble shows up on Mercy's doorstep.  I love the scene.  It has a surprising hero too.  Hooked, yet?

Ms Briggs can draw you into a book better than most authors I've read and loved.  The writing is first class and even though we're in book 8, there are still little tweaks to the world development.  This keeps the books fresh and alive.  The bad part is the books are published so far apart, you forget some of the details you might want to remember.  Ms Briggs does an excellent job of incorporating the big events from previous book into the story to remind you of important events.

Night Broken is all Adam, Mercy and Pack but there are plenty of other little surprises that pop up too.  The surprises give insight and depth to the story without detracting from the main plot.  There is a lot and I mean a lot of new information unfolding in this installment.

Towards the end I was getting very nervous, I mean, I was at 99% and big moments weren't over.  My stomach was actually getting upset.  Cliffhanger???? You'll have to read it to find out.  Man oh man, I do not want to wait until 2015 for the next installment.

The prices are worth it to me as I have them all and will continue to buy this series.  Kindle and Nook editions are $10.99.  The hardcover at Amazon is $20.51 and at Barnes and Nobel is $20.91

Highly Recommend!!
