Review: Obsession in Death (In Death #40) by J.D. Robb

Obsession in Death - J.D. Robb

Absolutely loved Obsession in Death!!

What I liked: The previous book, Festive In Death, was good but not one of my all time favorites so I was a bit hesitant about this one. I needn't have worried at all! Obsession In Death is Ms Robb at her very best.

First of all, this plot line is a very good one. Someone is trying to help Lt Eve Dallas by killing people who have not been all that kind to Eve in the past. The killer thinks justice is not being served and wants to help Eve by getting rid of the disrespectful people in her past.  The killer thinks they know and connect with Eve but of course, he/she doesn't know Eve at all.  Eve would stand for the victim even if she hated their guts and has done so in the past.

A lot of the time in this series you know who the killer is but Eve needs to find a way to get the evidence. This is one of those books that completely hides the bad guy up until the very end. I did not figure it out at all. The killer idolizes Eve and wants to be "her one true friend" by skirting justice and presenting Eve with the gifts of the dead.  Of course, an idol will almost certainly disappoint you and then what happens, the obsessed individual needs to "fix" or hurt the idol.

Eve has so many more people in her life now than at the beginning of this series. She has to try to make sure each and everyone of them stays out of the killer's path. Not as easy as it sounds as the killer is very, very knowledgeable about police work and forensics. Is it a bad cop?? You'll have to read it to find out.

What I didn't like: Absolutely nothing not to like in Obsession In Death!!

This was one of my favorite reads in this series.  Ms Robb kept me up past my bedtime and got me reading with my first cup of coffee. One of the greatest things about this series are the characters and their development. The author is an artist in developing each character. No one is left behind to fumble through a book. Another good thing for us readers, Ms Robb puts out two In Death books a year and the time frames match up.  In other words, you get one near Christmas and one right after. The following year, only one year has passed so the characters aren't moving forward while the reader waits for the next book. This ensures, I hope, that we can look forward to this series continuing for a very long time.

Just think, forty (40) books in this series and I've re-read it at least 4 or 5 times from beginning to end!! That's one talented author to be able to hold my interest THAT long!!

Highest of Recommendation from me!! Just think, a whole series to fall in love with!!
