Review: Angel Kin (Angel Assassins #1) by Tricia Skinner Released: 28 April 2014
A new author for me to try and I liked it! This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley.
What I liked: I don't often read what I would call Paranormal Romance but Angel Kin isn't strictly in that genre. I enjoyed the premise of the story and it kept me entertained. It was a short, quick read.
Katie is an interesting character. She seems to have a heart of gold concerning her family and friends but she's tough enough to stand for them too. I really enjoyed her character and wish the book had been a bit longer to give more background, not only on her but her friends and family.
Cain gives me the impression of the strong, silent type. He lives up to that except he finds himself very attracted to Katie. I was somewhat surprised they didn't make it to bed sooner, but there is a reason for it. I'm not telling but it really surprised me.
Having half-angels who are not the know all, be all was very different. How they became half-angels or Nephilim is a major part of the story. Cain and his brotherhood are also called The Bound Ones. I won't say why because it's a major part of the storyline.
What I didn't like: This was a very short book and maybe suffered a bit for it. I wanted more information and background on most of the characters. The Bound Ones felt one dimensional because I felt like I didn't know them well enough. Admittedly, this story was about Cain but I still wanted more.
The same can be said about Katie. What I learned of her brother, I really liked. She placed herself in harm's way for her friends in the band but again, I didn't get a chance to know them.
Overall, I enjoyed Angel Kin and after the ending will definitely check out the next in the series. No, it's not actually a cliffhanger but a great lead in to the next book.
